PCPA Works on D&A Confidentiality

May 11, 2002

The issue of confidentiality in the drug and alcohol (D&A) system has long been a serious problem for PCPA members. The primary concerns relate to the delivery of care to clients who are involved in other systems of care, or clients whose insurance requires more information than the current law allows the provider to release. PCPA will be working with other stakeholders in an attempt to make some needed changes.

PCPA is pleased to be a part of a meeting scheduled by the Pennsylvania Association of County Drug and Alcohol Administrators (PACDAA) for May 22 to discuss the issue of confidentiality and look at ways of resolving some of the problems that continue to arise for clients, providers, and counties. The first meeting will include PACDAA, PCPA, PRO-A, and DASPOP.

In addition, the next PCPA Forensic Subcommittee meeting will also be addressing this issue. If you are interested in contributing to these discussions please contact Lynn Cooper at the Association.
