Dedicated Alcohol Tax Legislation and Resolution Written

April 28, 2005

PCPA is pleased to report that the first piece of legislation regarding the dedicated alcohol tax has been written. Mark Ryan, staff to Senator Pat Vance, has drafted the legislation regarding the earmarking of existing alcohol taxes to current drug and alcohol line items. A copy of the legislation and a chart explaining the percentages is accesible through the links below. PCPA recently testified before the Pennsylvania House of Represenatives Health and Human Services Committee, receiving tremendous support. Several legislators asked to be co-sponsors of the legislation. In addition, a meeting was held with Secretary of Public Welfare Estelle Richman, who also expressed strong support. Also available through the links are a copy of the resolution that has been developed and will be circulated for support and the most recent position paper.

The associaiton needs help NOW. Please take copies the position paper, the legislation, and the resolution to future meetings and work with PCPA to garner support. The next Dedicated Alcohol Tax meeting is June 9, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. All interested PCPA members are encouraged to attend. Please contact Lynn Cooper to RSVP or if you have any questions.
