PCPA Gubernatorial Forum Postponed

April 5, 2006

PCPA hosted the inaugural gubernatorial forum on human services in April 2002. While the forum was focused on issues affecting the behavioral health and mental retardation communities, other questions relative to human services were also included.

A similar gubernatorial forum was planned at Elizabethtown College for April 19, but is now cancelled. This election, Pennsylvania has an incumbent governor and essentially no primary opposition for the major party candidates of Governor Edward G. Rendell (Democrat) and Lynn Swann (Republican). Given these two factors and based on PCPA’s conversations with the campaigns and party state committees, the association does not believe it could present a substantive campaign forum at this time.

Both campaigns have indicated great interest in meeting with PCPA post-primary. PCPA will keep members apprised of a new forum date and plans as they materialize. In the meantime, candidate information can be found at:

Governor Edward G. Rendell (Democrat): www.rendellforgovernor.com.

Mr. Lynn Swann (Republican): www.swannforgovernor.com.

A special thanks is extended to the Legislative Affairs Committee and members of the GRI Alumni Network for their efforts in laying the foundation for planning this event. Also, PCPA gives its sincerest thanks to Elizabethtown College in Lancaster for its willingness to again host the gubernatorial human services forum and address these important issues.

Members should contact Melissa DiSanto Simmons, director of legislative affairs with questions or comments.
