"Incident To" Efforts Continue

December 23, 2002

PCPA has actively pursued issues related to Medicare "incident to" billing and a new interpretation by HGSAdministrators (HGSA) eliminating all psychotherapy services provided "incident to" the services of a psychiatrist or psychologist. The Association has responded to HGSA by letter to request a change in interpretation. As well, contact with officials and advocates at state and federal levels has occurred around this issue.

PCPA now needs the assistance of its members.

A survey about utilization of "incident to" services and their budgetary impact has been developed. PCPA will use this information to analyze the impact HGSA's interpretation will have on members and, in turn, to better advocate for member needs. A work group will provide guidance and direction as PCPA continues to advocate for change to the interpretation.

The PCPA Survey on Medicare "Incident To" Services may be completed electronically; access is through the Members Only home page or by hard copy. A copy of the survey is available in Adobe PDF format from this link. Please contact Rebecca May Cole with questions.

Members interested in participating in the Medicare "Incident To" Work Group may sign up on the survey, or by contacting Ms. May Cole.
