Keystone Pride Recovery Initiative Trainings
August 11, 2012

The Pennsylvania Mental Health Consumers' Association (PMHCA) received a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services office to help apply some of the SAMHSA recommendations related to LBGT-focused efforts.

PMHCA is working in collaboration with Keystone Pride Recovery Initiative and Drexel University to develop cultural competency training and a course for providers on the clinical competencies needed to serve people who identify as LBGTQI. Both site based and web based training is written and provided.

Principles and Practice for Clinicians Working with the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Questioning and Intersex Individuals (LGBTQI) is a requisite for clinicians who provide services to adults and/or youth who desire to better serve persons who may identify as LGBTQI.This three-day free training for clinicians explores common mistakes in therapy; not-so-hidden bias in documentation; suicide and health disparities including psychiatric and substance use risks; and trauma-informed care.

More information (and registration) about this training and other opportunities in the initiative is available at http://www.pmhca.org/projects/kpri-trainings.html.
