The Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) has funds available for participation in the Special Pharmaceutical Benefits Program (SPBP) for Mental Health. Funds are available to assist with payment for certain medications for persons not eligible for Medical Assistance, but have income of $30,000 or less (plus $2,480 for each family member). This eligibility criterion differs from that for the SPBP program for HIV/AIDS medications. The individual must have a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Covered medications include Abilify, Clozaril, Clozapine, Geodon, Risperdal, Seroquel, and Zyprexa. SPBP also assists with Medicare premiums, deductibles, and co-payments for SPBP covered medications. A fact sheet, additional information, and an application, are available on the Department of Public Welfare web site (www.dpw.state.pa.us/PartnersProviders/MedicalAssistance/AdvocatesStakeholders/AIDSClozarilProgram).
Applicants can call 877-356-5355 for assistance with completing the application. Completed applications should be mailed to:
