The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, through the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit (TIU), is seeking applicants to develop statewide training materials to be used by service providers supporting adults with autism spectrum disorders. Materials must be in an electronic format (CD/DVD) that can also be printed in a hard copy/paper manual format. Interested parties may submit proposals by August 3 to Michele Huntsman, TIU, 2527 US Highway 522 South, McVeytown, PA, 17051. The training materials must address the multiple needs of adults with autism including, but not limited to:
- Vocational training and social inclusion at the job site;
- Housing with varied levels of support for both independent and group living;
- Long-term employment support with social inclusion;
- Education in post-secondary educational settings;
- Life skills including personal safety, transportation training, sexuality instruction, family life, etc.;
- Healthcare and communication with healthcare providers; and
- Pre-emptive crisis management across settings.
Funds will be provided for 10 months of project development, with a maximum budget of $100,000. An electronic copy of the proposal is available through PCPA from either Connell O’Brien or Linda Drummond.
