OMR Medication Administration Training

The Pennsylvania Office of Mental Retardation (OMR) in collaboration with the State Board of Nursing developed the Medication Administration Training Program. The purpose of this training is to provide training for:

The program is a train the trainer model with two tiers. Tier One prepares unlicensed staff working in a community program to administer medication. Tier Two is for participants who have successfully completed the Train the Trainer course to teach and monitor unlicensed staff in agencies to administer medications to individuals who receive services.

Beginning in the fall a new function will be incorporated into the medication program. The Medication Practicum Observer will assist trainers in their agencies in conducting practicum examinations. They will be trained by their agency’s trainer and are not required to attend the two-day Train the Trainer course.
