The Pennsylvania
Office of Mental Retardation (OMR) in collaboration with the State Board of
Nursing developed the Medication Administration Training Program. The purpose
of this training is to provide training for:
- Unlicensed staff in community settings governed by the Chapter 6400 regulations,
- Small, private ICFs/MR licensed through Chapter 6600 regulations, and
- Adult Training Facilities licensed through Chapter 2380 regulations.
The program is a train the trainer model with two tiers. Tier One prepares unlicensed staff working in a community program to administer medication. Tier Two is for participants who have successfully completed the Train the Trainer course to teach and monitor unlicensed staff in agencies to administer medications to individuals who receive services.
Beginning in the fall a new function will be incorporated into the medication program. The Medication Practicum Observer will assist trainers in their agencies in conducting practicum examinations. They will be trained by their agency’s trainer and are not required to attend the two-day Train the Trainer course.
For Train the Trainer participants, OMR has scheduled the two-day training course (cost $30) as follows:
- September 13 — 14 or February 21 — 22, Harrisburg
- September 20 — 21, Wilkes-Barre
- September 27 — 28, Lancaster
- October 4 — 5 or March 7 — 8, Fort Washington
- October 11 — 12 or February 28 — March 1, Monroeville
- October 18 — 19, Erie
- October 25 — 26 or March 21 — 22, Philadelphia
- November 8 — 9, Altoona
- February 7 — 8, Wyomissing
- February 14 — 15 or March 14 — 15, Pittsburgh
- March 28 — 29, Selinsgrove
