Changes and Challenges: A Training For the New Age of Consent Law

February 16, 2005

Changes and Challenges will be a one day training on Act 147 of 2004 and other laws that impact age of consent for treatment and release of records and information.

In January Act 147 became law. This new law is one of several that interact to determine who may consent for inpatient and outpatient treatment as well as who controls the right to release records and information and to whom. Many questions are being raised relative to clinical practice and agency policy, procedures, forms, and staff supervision. PCPA has arranged for Thomas E. Sweeney, Esq., noted attorney and educator in the area of mental health law and Nina Chernoff, Esq., staff attorney with the Juvenile Law Center to provide a full-day presentation and discussion. This training will included information on Act 147 of 2004, the Minor’s Medical consent Act, the Mental Health Procedures Act, and other state and federal laws that impact mental health policy and practice in the areas of consent to treatment and release of records.
