Dr. Guy Diamond Named 2010
Marilyn Mennis Memorial Award Recipient
July 12, 2010
Guy Diamond, PhD, is director of the Center for Family Intervention Science, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Psychiatry. PCPA is pleased to announce that he has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 Marilyn Mennis Memorial Award.
The center is dedicated to the development, testing, and dissemination of empirically supported mental health services for adolescents and their families. Dr. Diamond is a distinguished clinician and researcher best known for his work on attachment-based family therapy for depressed and suicidal adolescents. Diamond is also co-director of the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act grant to Pennsylvania’s Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. Dr. Diamond and his team have worked to develop a research based mental health screening tool for use by primary care practices. This innovative tool promises to reduce youth suicide risk and promote greater collaboration between primary health care practices and community mental health providers. Dr. Diamond trained at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center and has worked with several PCPA member agencies during his career.
PCPA Board of Directors established the award in 1995 in honor of Marilyn Mennis,“a tireless advocate for developing quality services for persons with special needs.” The award is presented in October during the PCPA conference to an individual or program that reflects Ms. Mennis’ qualities of dedication, caring, leadership, and advocacy on behalf of Pennsylvania’s children with special needs and their families. Past recipients have included Mr. Joseph DeVizia, Dr. Steve Jewell, Dr. Stan Mrozowski, Mr. Pete Rubel, Mr. Michael Reber, and, in 2009, the COMHAR Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Project.
