Kimes Appointed to Governor’s Commission on Children and Families

May 13, 2004

The Governor’s Commission on Children and Families
On April 14 the governor established the State Commission on Children and Families as “comprised of family members, advocates and people who work on the front lines with service providers in the Commonwealth.” The commission will advise the Children’s Cabinet on a wide range of issues, problems, priorities, and solutions on a regional and statewide basis.

Appointment of George Kimes to the Commission
Last week Mr. Kimes, Executive Director, Pennsylvania Community Providers Association, received a letter from Governor Rendell formally appointing him to the commission. Kimes, a long time leader in the provider community, will bring his experience and expertise in a range of community-based child and family service systems to the work of the commission. Kimes has noted on numerous occasions “the Commission’s potential to make an historic contribution to the planning process, quality, and accessibility in service systems for children, youth, and families across Pennsylvania.”

PCPA’s Commitment of Support to the Work of the Commission
In addition to his own ability and experience, the Kimes appointment brings the commitment and support of PCPA’s staff and membership at both the state and regional levels. The Association has now written to congratulate the Commission’s State Chairperson, and each of the six Regional Commission Chairs. Along with each letter, PCPA member information has been included for each agency working to meet the needs children and families in each commission region.
