Seats Remain for Mental Health First Aid!
August 23, 2010

PCPA is offering Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in Langhorne (Philadelphia area) on September 23 –24. The deadline to register is September 8. Don’t miss out on this groundbreaking, public education program.

MHFA is an interactive 12-hour certification course that introduces participants to risk factors, warning signs, impacts of mental health problems, and overviews of common treatments. Participants learn a five-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources, and knowledge to help an individual in a psychiatric crisis connect with appropriate professional, social, and self-help care. The course also helps participants learn the prevalence of various mental health disorders in the US. Mental Health First Aid is designed to fight the stigma associated with mental illness and to address the real desire to help someone who is struggling. MHFA is designed for non-clinicians. This course is an excellent training opportunity for service coordinators, peer specialists, foster families, family living providers, administrative support staff, and direct service professionals.

A recent participant said of the course “It is comprehensive and think it would be very valuable to those who work in human services and do not have a mental health background, yet are faced with clients with mental health issues.

More information about the program is available on the PCPA Mental Health First Aid Training page. Specific information regarding this opportunity is included in the brochure.

Cost is $109/person for PCPA members and $159/person for non-members. This two-day training includes a participant manual, a certificate of completion from the National Council, and a light lunch. CEUs and group discounts are also available.

You can also bring MHFA to your agency and receive a significant per person discount. For more information about the training or to register, please access the announcement. Jen Bankard, director of training and resource development (jen@paproviders.org or 717-364-3280).
