RCPA - Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association

Provider Survey: Impact Assessment of Alternatives to Coercive Techniques
January 22, 2008

For nearly two years PCPA and the provider community have worked with the Department of Public Welfare (DPW) as they have recognized and promoted the efforts of providers to find and implement effective ways to prevent and respond to behavioral crisis situations in residential settings. This restraint reduction effort began with the release of a DPW Special Transmittal in January 2006. The association has heard of many successful provider efforts over the past several years resulting in improved methods for preventing and managing behavioral crisis situations. PCPA has also been made aware of numerous predictable but unintended consequences this initiative has produced.

PCPA is now conducting a provider survey to assess the impact of behavioral crisis management, trauma informed care, and other similar practice change initiatives in residential treatment, care, and detention settings across Pennsylvania. The survey is an opportunity for the provider community to learn more about the impact of state and local level practice changes on programs, services, staff, and facilities. It is important to learn more about the changes in practice, admissions, staff retention, injury rates, and related areas.

Your agency can access and complete the survey on line at www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=AmrjCfOVGlK_2fbgaSf32csA_3d_3d. A report on the survey results and findings will be shared with all participants that provide email contact information.
