Ambrose Named to Lead DHS in Philadelphia
June 3, 2008

Mayor Michael Nutter, City of Philadelphia, has named Anne Marie Ambrose to the position of commissioner, Department of Human Services (DHS), for the city and county of Philadelphia. Ms. Ambrose has served as the Director of Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Services at the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Office of Children, Youth and Families. She will assume her new position June 23. DHS has been undergoing a major reorganization and a national search for a commissioner. Dr. Arthur C. Evans, Jr. served as Acting Commissioner of DHS since October 2006. Dr. Evans will now serve solely in the position as director of the Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services.

During the announcement of her appointment Ambrose commented, "I am deeply grateful to Mayor Nutter for the trust he has placed in me, to take on this most important mission. Having worked at DHS in the past, I know the genuine commitment and dedication of the staff, who share my passion for ensuring that positive outcomes are achieved for children and families through the delivery of competent, sensitive, and timely services. It is with great anticipation and excitement that I look forward to continuing the great work of leading this agency and to making it a model for excellence in child welfare."
