Governor Proclaims Child MH Awareness Day
April 29, 2011

At the request of PCPA, Governor Tom Corbett has proclaimed May 3 as Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day in Pennsylvania. In his proclamation the governor encourages “all citizens to educate themselves and others about how mental illness affects children and families as a means of raising awareness and understanding the seriousness and complexity of these disorders.”

The proclamation notes that “mental health problems can impact a child’s ability to reach personal goals and to have success at home, at school and in the community as well as effect a child ability to become a productive and independent citizen.” The proclamation affirms that “Pennsylvania is committed to ensuring that families, mental health professionals, schools, hospitals, community organizations, and churches are embracing these efforts in an active campaign to assist them.”

The copy of the proclamation is available from the link above.
