Children and Family Commission Appointed by Rendell

Governor Rendell has appointed the 39 member state Commission to the Cabinet on Children and Families
At the April 14 press conference the governor introduced the 39-member Children and Family Commission as “...comprised of family members, advocates, and people who work on the front lines with service providers in the Commonwealth.” The membership of the commission is intended to be highly diverse and to effectively represent the unique regions of Pennsylvania.

Shelly Yanoff Appointed to Chair the State Commission
Rendell has named Shelly Yanoff, Executive Director, Philadelphia Citizens for Children and Youth, to chair the state commission. Yanoff, a Philadelphia resident with a law degree from Villanova University, has been a long time advisor to the governor on children’s issues.

Regional Chairpersons Appointed to Lead Six Regional Commissions
The structure for the commission calls for state and regional level organizations. The commission has identified six geographic regions. A member of the state commission has been appointed to serve as Regional Chair for each geographic area. These chairpersons and regions are:

  • Southeast Region Chair: Nick Torres, Executive Director, Congresso de Latinos Unitas
  • Southcentral Region Chair: Wendy Luckenbill, parent and coordinator, Pennsylvania Collaboration for Youth
  • Southwest Region Chair: Leon Haynes, Executive Director, Hosanna House Inc.
  • Northwest Region Chair: Maureen Barber-Carey, Executive Vice President, Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Center, Inc.
  • Northcentral Region Chair: Ellen DeDomenico, Human Services Director, Lycoming-Clinton Counties and President, Pennsylvania Association of County Human Services Administrators, and
  • Northeast Region Chair: Patricia Levin, Executive Director, Community Services for Children, Inc.
