Early Childhood MH Recommendations
September 9, 2009

On September 1 the state’s Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Advisory Committee presented a set of recommendations to Secretary of Public Welfare Estelle Richman and to the leadership of the state’s child serving systems. Following a year of work the advisory committee offered their plan which focused on three critical areas: prevention and intervention, work force development, and communication and collaboration. In addition to providing recommendations for short, intermediate, and long-term system change, the committee identified several areas for immediate action. The advisory committee will establish specific milestones and completion goal dates in collaboration with lead stakeholders including Department of Public Welfare (DPW) program offices, other relevant advisory committees, counties, universities, professional providers, and behavioral health managed care organizations. The committee will also develop a tracking document that will be reviewed regularly with the DPW secretary, program office deputy secretaries, and key staff. A full report on the recommendations will be presented at the Children’s Committee during the September 15 meeting and is also available from at www.parecovery.org/documents/ECMH_Adv_Recommendations.pdf.
