FASD Call to Action
November 8, 2011

On November 3 the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) Children’s Bureau unveiled and presented A Call to Action, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: Awareness, Identification and Intervention for Children in Pennsylvania to the OMHSAS Children’s Advisory Committee. The call to action represents the starting point for OMHSAS’ efforts to build system-wide capacity to identify and address behavioral health care challenges that frequently occur among children and adolescents with a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

The FASD call to action builds on work of the Department of Health FASD Task Force report and establishes a road map for the behavioral health system of assessment, intervention, care coordination, managed care, and county agencies. PCPA has long advocated for service system development related to FASD and will continue to collaborate with stakeholders in advancing the strategic framework developed by OMHSAS. A copy of A Call to Action, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: Awareness, Identification and Intervention for Children in Pennsylvania and the accompanying presentation are available from the links.
