Governor’s Commission for Children and Families Submit Recommendations
January 3, 2007

The Governor’s Commission for Children and Families submitted recommendations to the Secretary of Public Welfare focused on the responsibility of parents, families, communities, and government to provide vital support to parents. The report and recommendations offer a strategy of prevention in achieving the commission’s goal that all Pennsylvania children grow up healthy, safe, and happy while succeeding in school and life and contributing to society as caring and conscientious citizens and responsible and nurturing family members.

The commission members call on the administration, that effectively prioritized the funding and development of quality early childhood education and expanded health insurance for children, to focus on promoting the development for community-based:

  • family support centers,
  • home visiting services, and
  • parent education programs.
