JCJC Solicits Program and Youth Awards

The Juvenile Court Judges' Commission (JCJC) is accepting nominations for its 2012 JCJC Awards Program.  Award categories include:

  • Residential Program of the Year (any public or private sector program serving alleged and/or adjudicated delinquent youth in a residential setting),
  • Community-based Program of the Year (any public or private sector program which provides community-based non-residential services to alleged and/or adjudicated delinquent youth) and
  • JCJC Meritorious Service Award: (an individual volunteering his/her time to work with alleged and/or delinquent youth).

All nominations must be submitted by county juvenile probation departments.  Individuals who would like to have programs or volunteers nominated should contact the county Chief Juvenile Probation Officer to discuss the possibility of submitting a nomination. Formal nomination materials must be postmarked by April 27.

In addition, the JCJC will again sponsor a Youth Awards Program as part of this year's program to honor youth selected as winners in the poster contest, creative written expression contest, outstanding achievement contest, and (new in 2012) the Juvenile Justice Scholarship Award. This scholarship award is being sponsored by the Juvenile Section of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges who will present two  $1,000 awards to deserving juvenile justice system-involved youth planning to attend a postsecondary education institution. Nominations must be submitted by probation departments and Juvenile Court Judges.Youth award nominations must be postmarked by May 4. The Awards Committee encourages programs to involve the youth in community programs to participate in competition and awards process.
