DPW Issues Application for Early Childhood Training
August 16, 2010

The Department of Public Welfare (DPW) has issued a Request for Applications (RFA) for providers interested in participating in a partially-funded grant project to provide staff training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). The RFA has been sent to all licensed outpatient clinics. Interested providers can also find it on the Internet listed under "Announcements" at www.pakeys.org. For additional information, please feel free to contact Stan Mrozowski (smrozowski@state.pa.us).

Managed by DPW, this project will provide intensive training, on-going supervision, coaching, and support. DPW hopes to receive applications that will result in the creation of several regional centers for ongoing expansion of this promising clinical practice.  In year one of the grant, training will be provided to eight master's level clinicians in four licensed mental health agencies. During the second year, eight more clinicians will be trained. Those who are trained will then be able to train an additional clinician in their agency.

There is a very short time available to consider and apply for participation. Some of the key dates are:

  • A WebEx informational session is August 20 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.,
  • The deadline for submission of an application is September 10,
  • Agencies will be notified of decisions on September 25, and
  • The grant begins with a week-long training on November 1 at Family Pathways in Butler, PA.
Agencies can learn more about PCIT at www.pcit.org or http://pcit.phhp.ufl.edu.
