Residential Restraint Reduction to Begin
November 30, 2005

The Department of Public Welfare (DPW) has announced the kick-off event for the statewide effort to reduce and, where possible, eliminate physical restraint of children and adolescents served in residential treatment, care, and detention settings. The day-long event will be Wednesday, December 14 at the Child Welfare Training Center in Mechanicsburg. Secretary Richman and Deputy Secretaries Erney and Hardy will be present as a reflection of one of the key strategies; "leadership toward organizational change."

The primary audience for this event is leadership in the state’s residential programs. Space will be limited and early registration is encouraged. The involvement of agency leadership and program directors will be critical to understanding and implementing strategies for restraint reduction and the collection and use of performance improvement data. Additional details regarding registration, agenda, and meal costs will be sent by DPW and PCPA as it becomes available.
