Medicaid Reinstated for Some Families Affected by TANF
July 7, 1999

PCPA has received the following information from the Pennsylvania Health Law Project:

Effective July 1, 1999 the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare has agreed to reinstate Medicaid coverage for tens of thousands of adults and children across Pennsylvania who lost coverage when their families left TANF (cash assistance). New ACCESS cards are being sent to families and should arrive by July 1.

Some families will need to return a form to the Department of Public Welfare in order to keep their benefits after an initial two-month period. You can assist people with this process and help to make sure that families have the health care they need as they move from welfare to work.

Materials on the reinstatement process and how you can help are available from the Pennsylvania Health Law Project at 800-274-3258.

Please pass this notice on to others who may be interested in assisting with this important opportunity.
