Crisis Volunteers Needed
February 18, 2008

Volunteers with experience in crisis intervention are needed in Illinois to assist with follow-up after the Northern Illinois University shooting incident. The National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare has asked PCPA to distribute this request for volunteers.

Volunteer criteria are:

  • Be independently licensed in the state of residence/occupation.
  • Crisis intervention training/experience preferred.
  • Volunteers will sign a volunteer agreement that states that they will be indemnified under the Illinois State Employee Act while they are providing services, but will not receive compensation.
  • Must show a copy of their license when they check in.

Interested and qualified volunteers should email the following information to Liz Carney, executive director, DeKalb County Community Mental Health Board (lcarney@dekalbcounty.org): name, credentials, full contact information so that volunteers can be scheduled. Volunteers will be contacted if/when they are needed to schedule their services. No volunteers should report to the campus unless contacted with information about when and where to report.

Please contact Betty Simmonds with questions.
