DRN Seeks Those Having Difficulty With Voter ID
September 22, 2012

PCPA received the following request from the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania and asks members to distribute it to interested constituencies.

Friends:

You may have heard that there is a controversial voter ID law in Pennsylvania that may prevent some people in our community from voting on November 6. We are asking for your help in ensuring that every voter is reached in time to get the proper ID they need for voting. We are also asking for your help in identifying people who have had trouble trying to get IDs.

If you answer yes to any of these questions, please let us know right away so we can follow up with you:

- Have you (or has someone close to you) attempted to get a free ID from PennDOT in recent weeks, succeeded in getting it, but encountered major challenges or long lines in the process?

- Do you (or does someone close to you) need to get a free ID for voting, but face significant challenges in getting to a PennDOT center (mobility problems, difficulty getting to the closest center, etc.)?

- Have you (or has someone close to you) tried to get a free ID, but been rejected at a PennDOT center? For example, did PennDOT staff tell you that you were rejected because they couldn't confirm that you are a registered voter or that you didn't provide proof of address?  Were there language barrier issues?

- Have you (or has anyone close to you) encountered any other problems in efforts to get a free state-issued ID for voting?

If you have encountered any of these issues, please contact Paul O’Hanlon at pohanlon@drnpa.org as soon as possible.

Thank you for your help.
