Listening Sessions on Employment of Persons With Disabilities
January 17, 2010

The US Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Disability Employment (ODEP), in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA), Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Education, and the DOL Employment Training Administration, Veterans’ Employment Training Service, and Women’s Bureau, scheduled six listening sessions nationwide on employment of persons with disabilities. A New Day: We’re Listening will gather input on ways to employ women, veterans, and minorities with disabilities; what is working and what is not. Information from individuals, employers, providers, and advocates about the efficacy of federal employment services and support programs is sought. Suggestions for the top three focus issues for ODEP to support to increase employment of persons with disabilities will be collected.

A session on January 27 from 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 105 A+B, 1101 Arch St, Philadelphia. Presentations by preregistered parties will be made to representatives of the DOL Employment and Training Administration; the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation, Department of Education; and the SSA. Attendance is limited to 100 persons in the morning and 100 in the afternoon. Up to 15 individuals may make presentations of up to 10 minutes during each of the morning and afternoon periods. All participants must register and speakers will be notified and receive written confirmation. Written comments will also be accepted.
