Emergency Prescriptions For Medicare Recipients Available
January 16, 2006

Governor Rendell announced today an additional measure to ensure eligible individuals can receive the medications that they need and are entitled to under Medicare Part D, the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit. Beginning January 17 pharmacists are to provide a five-day emergency supply of prescription drugs for “poor, elderly and disabled people who are eligible for Medicare prescription drug coverage but are still having problems getting their medications through the Medicare program.” Pharmacies will be reimbursed for dispensing the medications. Guidance for pharmacies will be posted on the Department of Public Welfare web site (www.dpw.state.pa.us/Family/MedicarePartD/) under Pharmacy Cost Sharing Instructions (Interim).
