Health Information Technology Update

DPW HIT Initiative Webinar
The Department of Public Welfare (DPW) presents the fourth in a series of webinars on the Health Information Technology (HIT) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program on April 26 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This webinar will address questions that have been posed to the initiative over the past several months regarding eligibility; patient volume; adopt, implement, upgrade, and meaningful use; and next steps. Registration is not required. Connection information will be provided prior to the webinar. DPW is accepting questions to address during the webinar. Email questions to RA-mahealthit@state.pa.us. Frequently asked questions and information from previous webinars are available from the HIT Program Specific Information and Resources web site.

Federal HIT Strategic Plan Comments
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology requests comments on the Federal HIT Strategic Plan: 2011-2015. Comments must be submitted by April 22 through the Health IT Buzz Blog.

National Coordinator Named
Dr. Farzad Mostashari was named national coordinator for health information technology effective April 8. Dr. Mostachari joined the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) in 2009. He previously served as assistant commissioner for the Primary Care Information Project for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. He also headed the New York City Center of Excellence in Public Health Informatics. Dr. Mostashari succeeds Dr. David Blumenthal who left the ONC in February to return to health care policy and research at Harvard University.
