Webinar on Health Information Technology for Primary-Behavioral Health Care Integration
March 18, 2013

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration-Health Resources and Services Administration (SAMHSA-HRSA) Center for Integrated Health Solutions will present Health IT for Primary and Behavioral Healthcare Integration on March 25, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m., for primary and behavioral health stakeholders interested in the role of the electronic health record in integrated health care. Webinar presenters are Charles Hewitt, director, HIE Program Management, Rhode Island Quality Institute and Bill Cadieux, chief information officer, The Providence Center, RI, a SAMHSA Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration grantee. They will discuss federal protections related to the privacy of certain behavioral health treatment information that extend beyond those afforded by HIPAA privacy and security and create difficulties with the exchange of information needed for integrated care and services.

The webinar explores the results of a national effort to develop strategies that incorporate behavioral health into state health information exchanges (HIE) and examines the issues from the perspective of a state HIE and a behavioral health provider. This initiative developed and vetted strategies to address barriers, moving health care closer to the national goals of shared patient information for better coordination of care.

There is no fee to participate in the webinar, but participation is limited to the first 1,000 attendees. Register to participate at www.integration.samhsa.gov/about-us/webinars.
