Pennsylvania High Risk Insurance Available
August 6, 2010

The PA Fair Care health plan for uninsured adults with pre-existing conditions is now available on a first come, first served basis. Funding is limited, therefore only an anticipated 3,500 Pennsylvanians are expected to be enrolled in the first year of the program. After six months the program will be evaluated and, if funding allows, more people will be enrolled. Adults who are lawfully resident in the US, who have been uninsured for six months prior to the date of application for coverage, and who have a pre-existing condition are eligible for PA Fair Care. Benefits include preventive care, physician services, diagnostic services, therapy, skilled nursing, services for serious mental illness, inpatient and outpatient hospital services, emergency services, maternity, durable medical equipment, hospice, and prescription medications. Not included are services for mental health conditions other than serious mental illness, among other exclusions. The monthly premium is $283 with additional copayment and coinsurance requirements.

This insurance offers temporary coverage until the broad implementation of health care reform occurs in January 2014. Upon termination of PA Fair Care in December 2013, enrollees will transition to the Pennsylvania Health Insurance Exchange. No lapse in coverage should occur.   Access more information, including a list of pre-existing conditions and an online application, at www.PAFairCare.com. Slots are filling fast!
