November 30 Deadline for National Council Hurricane Sandy Recovery Grants

The deadline for Project Helping Hands grants for Hurricane Sandy recovery is November 30. National Council has grant awards of up to $5,000 available for member behavioral health services providers impacted by the hurricane. Funds can be used for:

  • Crisis counseling for those impacted;
  • Compensation for staff;
  • Purchase of medications for individuals served;
  • Quick repairs to damaged facilities;
  • Infrastructure and resources, such as cell phones, computers, transportation;
  • Disaster preparedness training for staff for the future;
  • Establishing emergency outreach offices;
  • Offering Mental Health First Aid courses for community awareness; and
  • Other needs created by Hurricane Sandy.

Interested providers should email Meena Dayak, vice president, marketing and communications (MeenaD@thenationalcouncil.org) by November 30 that explains in detail the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the provider’s facilities, staff, and/or individuals served and how grant funds would  be used if awarded for recovery efforts. Awardees will be announced by December 5. Grantees must submit a short report by March 2013 on how funds were used. Funding is provided for the National Council Project Helping Hands through the Ittleson Foundation.
