Conference Addresses Advocacy and System Challenges
April 6, 2010

NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania, a PCPA member, is committed to coordinated advocacy efforts through coalition building to meet the many challenges facing the field. These include ongoing economic challenges that threaten funding for essential services and supports, upcoming changes in Pennsylvania gubernatorial leadership, and national health care reform.

NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania is presenting their Tenth Annual Education Conference on April 23-24 at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriot. The conference, The Power to Ignite Change, a Personal Call to Action, focuses on the crucial need for grassroots advocacy (April 23) and the challenges currently facing the mental health system (April 24).  Participants will hear about local solutions that already make a positive impact on these issues. The conference will also provide tools and strategies for how to advocate and will identify a current focus for advocacy efforts.

Both Anne Leisure, PCPA director of legislative affairs, and Morgan Plant, PCPA lobbyist, will be part of the panel of presenters.  Ms. Leisure is part of an interactive panel discussing priorities for mental health advocacy efforts in 2010 and Ms. Plant will present Ensure Your Voice is Heard; Utilizing Effective Advocacy Strategies.

The conference brochure may be accessed above. Further questions may be addressed to Anne Leisure.
