ARRA NHSC Loan Repayment Now Available
June 2, 2009

Approximately $200 million in additional funding is available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for the National Health Service Corp (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program. From June 2, 2009 – September 2010, or as long as funds are available, awards will be made on a first come, first served basis to primary care clinicians (allopathic or osteopathic physicians, certified registered nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, physician assistants, general practice dentists, pediatric dentists, dental hygienists, health service psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, psychiatric nurse specialists, marriage and family therapists, and licensed professional counselors).

For two years of service at an eligible site, the NHSC will repay up to $50,000 of educational loans for qualified full-time clinicians. Clinicians who stay at sites longer may be eligible to apply for additional support. Many sites are available. Applications will be accepted continuously for the 15-month period or until all of the funds are expended. Clinicians do not need to be employed at the site at the time of application. Applications are usually processed within eight weeks and will be accepted beginning June 2. More information and applications are available on the NHSC web site (www.nhsc.hrsa.gov).
