Office of Developmental Programs Created
February 9, 2007

Department of Public Welfare (DPW) Secretary Estelle Richman announced the creation of the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP). The office was created through a reorganization of the Office of Mental Retardation and the establishment of the Bureau of Autism Services. Creating the new office was one of the core recommendations of the Autism Task Force Report released in December 2004.

In its initial stages, ODP will house the Bureau of Mental Retardation Services and Bureau of Autism Services as well as necessary support bureaus. Kevin Casey will continue as deputy secretary of ODP. Nina Wall-Cote will serve as director for the Bureau of Autism Services.

PCPA policy staff addressing children’s, mental health, and mental retardation issues will work together as autism services are further developed. For more information about the department or services visit www.dpw.state.pa.us. A copy of the press release announcing the change is attached below.
