Nominations for DPW P&T Committee
December 14, 2007

The Department of Public Welfare (DPW) is seeking nominations for participation on the Office of Medical Assistance Programs (OMAP) Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, an advisory committee to DPW on pharmaceutical services issues. DPW contacted PCPA requesting nominees to participate on the committee to review drug evaluations, utilization management protocols and guidelines, and other information necessary for OMAP pharmacy services management. Information from the DPW announcement follows:

"The purposes of the P&T Committee are:

1. To consult on the establishment of a Preferred Drug List (PDL) that promotes the use of safe and effective FDA-approved medications
2. To assist the Department in developing pharmaceutical management procedures that are based on sound clinical evidence
3. To encourage rational, clinically appropriate, safe and cost-effective use of pharmaceuticals in the Medical Assistance Program

"The Committee will be comprised of representatives of both the provider community and the Department. The positions for which DPW is currently soliciting nominations include:

  • 1 Family Practitioner
  • 1 Internist
  • 1 Pediatrician
  • 1 Hospital Pharmacist
  • 1 Academic Pharmacist
  • 1 Consumer or Advocate nominated by and representing OMAP Consumer MAAC Subcommittee
  • 1 Pharmacist or Physician nominated by and representing OMAP Consumer MAAC Subcommittee
  • 1 Consumer or Advocate nominated by and representing OMHSAS Consumers
  • 1 Pharmacist or Physician nominated by and representing OMHSAS Consumers

"“The members will be chosen by specialty, board certification, prior P&T experience, state residency, experience treating Medical Assistance Recipients, absence of conflicts of interest, ability to represent a broad base of constituents, and number of years in practice. We will accept re-nominations for existing P&T Committee members."
