President Signs MA Tamper-Resistant Prescriptions Delay
October 1, 2007

Requirements for use of tamper-resistant prescription pads for handwritten Medicaid prescriptions are delayed through March 31, 2008. President Bush signed HR 3668 September 29, which changes the implementation language “as if included in the enactment of section 7002(b) of the US Troop Readiness, Veterans’ Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act.” The Pennsylvania Office of Medical Assistance Programs (OMAP) issued Medical Assistance (MA) Bulletin 99-07-16, Tamper Resistant Prescription Pads, on September 28 to provide guidance on implementation. A Frequently Asked Questions document is also available in the "Pharmacy Services" section of the Department of Public Welfare web site (www.dpw.state.pa.us/Resources/Documents/Pdf/QAs_Tamper_Resistant_091707.pdf). OMAP also added a Provider Quick Tip to the department web site (www.dpw.state.pa.us/omap/promise/PDF/PROMISeQuickTip48.pdf). The implementation date is now April 1, 2008.
