Immediate Action Needed on Proposed Medicare Drug Benefit Rules
October 1, 2004

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued proposed rules for the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit in the Federal Register, August 3, 2004. This is a massive document in excess of 200 pages. PCPA is drafting comments to submit to CMS to be received by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on October 4. Volume of comment is very important to the process. The more comments received on specific issues, the better. Therefore, PCPA encourages members to use some of the language attached to formulate their own comments to CMS on this important program. These comments only address a few critical issues that must be reinforced by many to increase the likelihood of success. PCPA’s final comments will be more extensive. For further information, please contact Betty Simmonds at PCPA.

In your comments, please refer to file code CMS-4068-P. Please indicate the section of the proposed rule that is being addressing in the comments. Comments can be filed electronically through www.cms.hhs.gov/regulations/ecomments. Attachments should be in Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, or Microsoft Excel, with Microsoft Word being preferred by CMS. CMS will not accept comments by facsimile. Please address comments to:
