Health Reform Policy Briefings Available
June 3, 2009

Since Thanksgiving 2008, the Whole Health Campaign (WHC) has been working with the Obama Health Reform Transition Team and key Congressional staff to promote the inclusion of mental and addictive health in national health reform. As part of this work, the campaign has produced eight policy papers to be used with Hill staff around the core features of reform. These eight papers cover:

The WHC encourages leaders in the field to use the policy briefings to familiarize themselves with key reform issues and to translate that knowledge into positive actions to promote reform. The Whole Health Campaign was initially organized at the 2007 Santa Fe Summit of ACMHA: The College for Behavioral Health Leadership. The WHC has since become an active, collaborative organization made up of strong, independent mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery leaders and more than 50 organizations that act in concert to promote the three principles of the campaign:

  1. Ensure equitable and adequate mental illness and addiction treatment coverage in all public and private health care plans.
  2. Support policies that promote individual and family recovery from mental illnesses and addictions as integral to overall health.
  3. Commit to investing in America’s future through prevention, early intervention, and research on mental illnesses and addiction.
