Vendor Named for North Central Behavioral HealthChoices
September 13, 2006

The Department of Public Welfare (DPW) today announced that Community Care has been selected as the behavioral health managed care organization (BH-MCO) vendor for RFP No. 02-06: HealthChoices Behavioral Health Program North Central Zone. Community Care will be the primary contractor to manage the purchase and provision of behavioral health services for eligible Medical Assistance recipients residing in the North Central zone. The zone is comprised of Bradford, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Columbia, Elk, Forest, Huntington, Jefferson, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin, Montour, Potter, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, Union, Warren, and Wayne counties. Northumberland County had originally opted to take the right of first opportunity to operate the HealthChoices program. Reports now indicate that they may become part of the state contract pool.

This HealthChoices contract is a direct agreement between the department and BH-MCO, but provides for county government serving in a partnership role with DPW in managing the program. The implementation date is scheduled for January 1, 2007.

PCPA congratulates Community Care on being selected as the BH-MCO for the North Central zone and looks forward to working with them through the implementation. Community Care is an associate member of PCPA. Additional information about implementation and activities going forward will be provided as it is available.
