Input Needed on Medicaid HIT Plan

The Department of Public Welfare (DPW) has scheduled the first of several meetings to seek input on development of the State Medicaid Health Information Technology (HIT) Plan. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds are available to incent implementation of electronic information systems, including electronic health records that will improve coordination of care and services.

The first meeting is December 9 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Temple University Harrisburg, Rm 246, in Strawberry Square. The meeting will include a panel of representatives from DPW and the Governor’s Office of Health Care Reform (GOHCR). Members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly will also participate. DPW and GOHCR are soliciting feedback on the report Transforming Health Care Delivery Through the Use of Information Technology: The Role of the Department of Public Welfare, Office of Medical Assistance Programs available on the Medical Assistance HIT Initiative web site (www.dpw.state.pa.us/PartnersProviders/MedicalAssistance/MAHITI). PCPA intends to present comments on the plan and invites input from members. Please send comments to Betty Simmonds (betty@paproviders.org). Intent to present formal comments must be emailed to DPW at ra-mahealthit@state.pa.us by December 2. Formal comments must be submitted by December 7 for inclusion in the December 9 presentation.

More meetings will be held to gather input, although this is the only one scheduled to date.
