Kimes Testifies on Health Information Technology
February 26, 2010

George Kimes, PCPA executive director, provided testimony at the Philadelphia session of the Department of Public Welfare (DPW)-sponsored Health Information Technology (HIT) Listening Tour. Sessions were held across the commonwealth to present the department’s vision of the Medical Assistance HIT initiative to key stakeholders and obtain input on the process. These tours were designed to engage community partners and providers in the development of strategic health information technology initiatives. Testimony was presented to a panel of officials from DPW and the Governor's Office of Health Care Reform

PCPA testimony focused on the need for adequate funding to support technological improvements in the behavioral health community.  Kimes, who serves on the Medical Assistance Advisory Committee HIT Work Group, also thanked the department for working to make physicians and certified registered nurse practitioners who work in member organizations eligible for the Medicaid incentive funding.  Kimes also highlighted the value of electronic health records in facilitating integration between physical health and behavioral health providers
