MA Shortfall Causes Delay in Payment
June 21, 2004

Providers are being sent a special letter indicating that the check is not in the mail, but it will be soon. It appears that the Commonwealth has exhausted some Medical Assistance (MA) Appropriations. David Feinberg, Deputy Secretary for Medical Assistance Programs, assures providers that it is a short-term situation and is usually resolved on or before July 1. The shortfall will delay payment for claims, which would normally have paid in cycle 53. Some providers have also reported receiving notices of delayed payment for cycle 52.

This comes on the heels of providers experiencing major billing problems as a result of the new PROMISe Claims Processing System. PCPA has been working in close partnership with the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services to resolve numerous PROMISe problems. Please contact Lynn Cooper at the Association if you continue to experience difficulties in billing under the new system.
