Recommendations for System Efficiency, Cost Reduction Sought for Medicaid
September 24, 2008

The Managed Care Service Delivery System Subcommittee of the Medical Assistance Advisory Committee (MAAC) is soliciting suggestions on ways increase efficiency and reduce costs in the Medicaid system in Pennsylvania. The request is driven by the current fiscal down turn in state revenues and by recommendations that the MAAC explore opportunities for using the HealthChoices procurement and management process to improve the efficiency of the system and reduce costs at the provider, county, and behavioral health managed care organization levels.

PCPA provider members, especially executive, financial, and clinical leaders, are asked to submit their efficiency improvement, cost reduction recommendations to Connell O’Brien by October 1.  The association is also requesting suggestions from county and managed care associate members. PCPA, as a representative member of the MAAC and the subcommittee, will be making recommendations on ways that operational and administrative costs in the HealthChoices program could be reduced.
