Dual Diagnoses Recommendations Needed
August 21, 2013

RCPA is a member of the Offices of Developmental Programs and Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODP/OMHSAS) Dual Diagnoses Initiative for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and mental illnesses. Policy Specialists Linda Drummond and Betty Simmonds recently held a Dual Diagnoses Focus Group in cooperation with ODP and RCPA members. One outcome of this meeting was the desire to develop a list of issues and recommendations from direct service providers and supports/service coordinators in the IDD and MH systems to be shared with the Department of Public Welfare (DPW) and used as legislative talking points, possible training topics, or to lead systems change.

Please share recommendations such as financial incentives for staff to become dual diagnoses certified, increased funding for additional staff to serve this population, regulatory changes, and others. RCPA would also appreciate information about the number of individuals with dual diagnoses that members serve, the number of staff that work with these individuals, and the general length of service of staff. Send comments by August 30 to either Linda Drummond  or Betty Simmonds
