News articles and information that may be of interest:

  • The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has informed PCPA that while the long-term goal is to move residential eligible services to a Medicaid fee schedule, it will not occur in 2013/14 and it will require much stakeholder input in developing fees/rates.
  • ODP Announcement #008-13: Mileage Rate Change Effective 01/01/13 to $0.565 per mile on procedure code W7271.
  • The Social Security Administration is moving to replace the term “mental retardation” with “intellectual disability.” This does not alter the way claims are evaluated for those with developmental disability.
  • The Ticket to Work program is offering a podcast series available at www.chooseworkttw.net.
  • Pennsylvania Community on Transition Conference, “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow: Possibility, Opportunity, Action.” July 24-26. Penn Stater Hotel, State College.
  • 2013 National Autism Conference, July 29 – August 1. Penn Stater Hotel, State College.
  • Philadelphia Inquirer article “Corbett to boost funds for intellectually disabled adults.” Read this article carefully. This is not $20 million in new funding for 2013/14 but $2.2 million added to the 2012/13 $17.8 million that was added for the ID Waiting List.
  • In 2011 in Philadelphia, several persons were found to be holding captive individuals with disabilities and using them to carry out Social Security Fraud. Federal charges are being filed against the woman, her daughter, and others that worked together on this fraud and holding hostage and abuse of disabled individuals.
  • Mark your calendars for the next IDD Committee and SCO Subcommittee on March 19 at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey.
