ODP Updates
The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has released the following information.

  • Informational Packet #026-14: Preparations for FY 2014/15 ISP Renewal Period. Topic areas addressed include:
    • Use of waiver service definitions,
    • Rate load and dependencies,
    • Supplemental habilitation and additional individualized staffing,
    • Provider qualifications, and
    • Person/Family Directed Supports (P/FDS) Waiver cap.
  • The OCS Help Desk is experiencing e-mail problems. If you have submitted a help desk request in the past few days and have not received a reply, resubmit the request to http://support2.odpconsulting.net. Use your current username and password for the ODP information center or call 855-252-9482.

RCPA Committees
Mark your calendars for the June 5 Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Committee (11:30 a.m. –2:30 p.m.), Supports Coordination Organizations Subcommittee (9:00 – 11:00 a.m.), and Vocational Rehabilitation Subcommittee (2:45 – 4:45 p.m.). Agendas are under development. Please share topics and speaker suggestions with Linda Drummond by April 25.

ODP Updates
The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has released the following information.

  • Announcement #024-14: Training Now Available for Community Services Direct Support Professionals. Health Care Quality Units (HCQU) across the state are offering trainings for the first two lessons with the dual diagnosis curriculum. RCPA Policy Specialist Drummond has been a member of the team which has worked for two years developing this curriculum.
  • Announcement #025-14: ODP Presentation Certification and Licensing System Enhancements Effective April 28, 2014; Four calls have been scheduled in May and June with the Bureau of Human Services Licensing to discuss enhancements to the Certified Licensing System
  • State Police to Accept Expired and Unwanted Prescription Medications on April 26 as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

CMS Proposed Safety Code Updates
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced proposed rule changes on the Life Safety Code to ensure the health and safety of patients, families, and staff. The proposed code updates would apply to hospitals, long-term care facilities, critical access hospitals, programs for the elderly (PACE), hospice inpatient facilities, and intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disability (ICF/ID).

Major changes for ICF/IDs would include:

  • Expanded sprinkler requirements,
  • All designed means of escape be free from obstruction,
  • New facilities required to have smoke alarms on all levels,
  • Hazardous areas to be separated from other areas by smoke partitions, and
  • Existing facilities to include certain fire alarm features when updating fire alarm systems.

Public comments will be accepted until June 16. The proposed rule is on display at http://ofr.gov/inspection.aspx and will be published in the April 16 Federal Register.

Regional DD Conference
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia presents the 38th Annual Philadelphia Regional Conference on Developmental Disabilities May 9. Topics include integrated health care supports, overview of Lifesharing as a community living options, ODP waivers and services available; inclusive education strategies, and developing a good Individual Support Plan.
