The Pennsylvania Department of Aging has a new toll-free number to help individuals with questions about long-term living and services for those with disabilities. The link to Aging and Disability Resource Center line is 800-753-8827, available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The College of Direct Supports is offering a free webinar July 19 at 2:30 p.m. addressing “Educating, Enriching and Inspiring the Direct Support Workforce with DirectCourse. Register here.

The Kaiser Family Foundation has a new policy brief explaining the key issues in the Supreme Court’s Affordable Care Act decision. It is available on the Health Reform Source website at www.kff.org.
ODP Announcement #059-12: Supports Intensity Scale and PA Plus Web-based Scheduling Assistance. Ascend now has a new web-based scheduling system to be used for the SIS and PA Plus assessment scheduling process.

PCPA is hosting a webinar, “Appealing State Set Rates and Fees,” July 19 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. The cost for PCPA and PARF members is $49 and $79 for non-members. Details are available on the web site. Agencies have 33 days from the date on their official Department of Public Welfare (DPW) rate/fee letter to file a formal appeal with the DPW Bureau of Hearings and Appeals.

Ronald Melusky, new director of DPW’s Office of Administration which will be handing licensing for specific regulatory chapters, has issued a letter providing information regarding the differences in the inspection and licensing process.

  • Announcement #058-12: Now Available: SH/AIS User Guide and Webcast: Supplemental Habilitation and Additional Individualized Staffing Services Overview. Effective July 1, ODP requires these services to have prior authorization. The webcast is a required SCO training.

With the passage of the state 2012/13 budget, the DPW Public Welfare Code Amendment to House Bill 1261 establishing the Human Services Block Grant Pilots became effective. A copy of the language is available on the web site. The final reduction in this pilot for the intellectual disability base funds is 9.2 percent or $13.1 million.
