RCPA IDD Committee
Mark your calendars for the next Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Committee meeting on September 5, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in Harrisburg. Invited speakers include Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) Deputy Secretary Fred Lokuta and Bureau of Human Services Licensing Director Ron Melusky. Please share with Linda Drummond any issues for discussion with these Department of Public Welfare representatives. Watch for details in early August.

Temple’s Aging Project
Temple University’s Institute on Disabilities and Department of Rehabilitation Sciences are working on a grant funded by the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council to understand service needs of aging individuals with developmental disabilities. This project requests assistance from provider staff that have direct involvement in treatment planning to complete a brief online survey.

Alzheimer’s Planning Committee
Earlier this year, Governor Corbett established by executive order a 26 member Alzheimer’s Disease Planning Committee to formulate an effective strategy regarding services, supports, research, and resources for the estimated 400,000 Pennsylvania’s with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The planning committee has scheduled public comment sessions around the state in August and September.
RCPA member The Arc of Centre County will present at the August 8 session in State College regarding its new “Forever Home” (see June 2013 Provider News for an article about this facility). Other members interested in providing comments may contact RCPA Policy Specialist Linda Drummond for details
