RCPA - Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association

IDD Update
July 18, 2013

The Department of Public Welfare Bureau of Human Services Licensing has issued clarification regarding procedures for self-Inspection of Chapter 6400 and 6500 licensed homes. On January 15, 2013, the Department began to permit providers licensed pursuant to 55 Pa. Code Chapter 6400 (relating to community homes for people with intellectual disability) and 55 Pa. Code Chapter 6500 (family living homes) to self-inspect new homes in lieu of an inspection conducted by the Department of Public Welfare. An overview of those procedures is available. Please be advised that the new homes may not be occupied until the provider receives formal notice from the department that the new home has been added to the license. Simply submitting the self-inspection tool does not permit the home to be occupied. In most cases, very little time elapses between submission of the self-inspection tool and receipt of approval. Any questions may be directed to RA-pwarlheadquarters@pa.gov.
