IDD Updates - Week of July 29, 2013

The Office of Developmental Programs has released the following information:

  • Announcement #055-13: SC Curriculum 2013 Required Training: Understanding Trauma-Informed Care and Stressful Life Events.
  • Informational Memo #056-13: Incident Management Point Persons HCSIS Incident Management Demographic Issue. HCSIS point persons have reported the system is failing to pre-populate demographic information on incident reports; Procedures are provided.
  • Informational Memo #057-13: Updating Provider and AE Contact Information for Provider Monitoring for Fiscal Year 2013-14.

The Pennsylvania Secondary Transition Guide is available at www.secondarytransition.org. This web site provides information regarding secondary transition resources to help youth and young adults progress toward post-secondary goals related to education, employment, and community living.

RCPA supports coordination members are asked to share questions related to electronic health records for discussion with AO Consulting at the September 5 SCO Subcommittee meeting. Please send questions to Linda Drummond.

ODP Year 6 Cost Reports
The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has indicated that direct service providers of waiver residential services will be completing a Year 6 (FY 2014/15) cost report. The cost report will collect data from the 2012/13 and will be due to ODP in October 2013. ODP will conduct web-based training sessions on changes to the reporting process for Year 6 on September 11, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and September 17, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Watch for details in August.

ODP 2013/14 Budget
ODP presented its governor’s-enacted budget for 2013/14 at the July 25 Medical Assistance Advisory Committee meeting.

DSP Recognition Week
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Week is September 8 – 15. RCPA has asked Governor Corbett to issue a proclamation in recognition of direct support workers. This initiative is done in cooperation with the national recognition coordinated by ANCOR. Members employing Direct Support Professionals in the intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities systems are asked to contact local media outlets and county governments to generate coverage of DSP Week. It is crucial that community providers remind the public of the important work of these staff. Additional information will be sent to members in mid-August to assist in community outreach. RCPA also encourages members to share individual stories about direct support professional staff to be featured in the RCPA newsletter.

September 5 IDD Committee
RCPA’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Committee and Supports Coordination Organizations Subcommittee will convene September 5 at the Best Western Premier, Harrisburg. Invited guests for the IDD Committee meeting include ODP Deputy Secretary Fred Lokuta, Bureau of Human Services Licensing Director Ron Melusky, and Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Director Steve Suroviec. Members are asked to share questions and/or issues that they would like the state officials to address with Policy Specialist Linda Drummond by August 5.

Medications Training
The Bureau of Human Services Licensing has shared information for a training on how to properly handle situations where mediations are missing or stolen in a health care setting. There is a charge for this September 17 training offered by the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators. Details and registration are available online.

ADA Anniversary
July 26, marked the 23rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The week of July 29 will be recognized at ADA Anniversary Week. Details and information are available at  www.ADA.gov and www.disability.gov.
